What are private number plates?

Private number plates are one of the many names used to describe a number plate which has been purchased or transferred as it has a relevance or significance to its owner.

Private number plates are generally dateless number plate combinations - some of the oldest and rarest combinations are known as private number plates.

The ubiquitous "number 1 number plates" are all dateless private number plates. (think A1, F1, M1 etc)

Dateless private number plates began with A1 back in 1903 and are the oldest number plate style.

How much are private number plates worth?

Generally private number plates are worth more than other styles - the fewer the digits the higher the value of the number plate.

Prefix, suffix and new style number plates have infinitely more available combinations than dateless number plates and so dateless or private number plates tend to be in a higher demand.

Selling private number plates is a fairly swift process- there are always those in the market to purchase a "quality" number plate for a decent price without a thought about representing their initials or name.

Be sure to gauge the value of your private number plate correctly prior to selling it - some combinations are worth considerably more than others.

Private plates tend to be only a few characters and so very few can spell full words. Generally private plates are used to display the initials of the owner (MNM 1) or else as they are rare and valuable combinations (Y1, F1, M1 etc)
